The Hair Product That Is Changing My Life.
Can I tell y’all about this hair?
If you’re anything like me, my hair represents so much. It’s part of the first impression. It gives a little insight into your personality. It reflects the mood I’m in. So many things and I like it to be under control, even though I CAN be envious of women who wear their curly hair without abandon.
I’ve tried. I just cant get over the lack of control.
Hey, gotta know yourself right?!
Okay, a little disclaimer, I know it’s not perfect and yes there’s some heat damage but just bear with me for a minute!
I have been trying to find the perfect curly hair routine for the last…cough… 16 years.
Yes, 16 years!
Since I never found anything that works or lasts long enough, I’ve just kept straightening. Sooo…I’m going to allow this pic to stay up there because I was really feeling my hair today!
But, OMG I have found the absolute simplest routine and I absolutely HAVE to share it!
But first let’s take a look at that hair again! LOL
It’s giving length retention, texture, body, movement, softness, moisture. What?!
Literally giving me life.
Okay, we can move on.
I have never, ever talked about a hair product on this blog or my YouTube because I’ve never found one that actually works the way I hoped it would but this routine has delivered.
If you know anything about black hair, it does’t matter the texture, curly, kinky or coily, it can be so difficult to manage. Whether it’s moisture levels or frizz, or length retention or gel casts, It’s just tough to pull it all together. Our hair can be a little persnickety so it’s a big deal when you find something that works this well!
I’ll step off of the soap box now.
In 2006 I found out that I was pregnant with my daughter, who is now 16.
Immediately I decided to quit getting relaxers that would permanently straighten my hair. In order to keep the continuity between my new textured hair and the permanently straightened hair, I kept using the flat iron to straighten my curls and kept up the trimming for years until all of the permanently damaged straight hair was cut off.
I’ve tried everything…Eco styler, Henna (still love and use this), 85 different products together! Pure disappointment every time.
I started to think that maybe I was just too much of a control freak and natural hair was just meant to be dry, out of control, and untamable for me anyway.
So I threw up my hands and went right back to straight.
Enter The Doux Mousse Def
This one product has literally changed my life, my routine and my relationship with my hair.
Now, let me be honest, I’ve tried this product before maybe twice and it absolutely did not work. My hair was a puff ball by the end of the day. I had no idea how to apply it, how to use it, how to mix products with it and gave up again.
About a year ago, I just told my daughter that our hair just needed to be straightened and it was a bummer but we just didn’t have ‘wash and go’ hair.
Heading into the Summer of 2023 I was looking for a solution before heading on a Houseboat for a week.
Water, boats, paddle boarding, my hair was doomed to be a mess.
So I started searching the web (YouTube) for some good products to use with the LOC method which stands for Liquid, oil and cream, a very common method used by many naturals in the black hair community.
Then I saw the perfect style and perfect title My 7 Day Wash-N-Go
Mo Knows Hair saved me.
I’m pretty sure my mom, a licensed cosmetologist, introduced me to her a few years back. Mo, who is also a licensed cosmetologist, is always dropping gems on her channel so I decided to try out her routine and BEY-BEE, it changed my whole world!
If you don’t want to watch the whole video. There are just a few major steps that she uses
Start with freshly washed hair: I’ve been using the Camille Rose Naturals PEar something
Deep condition with a strength building deep conditioner under a hooded dryer. I’ve never focused on DEEP conditioning but could absolutely see the difference. I used the Mielle organics
Rinse and add a leave-in conditioner. I used Giovanni Direct Moisture and parted my hair into the style I wanted to keep before this next step.
Lastly, take small sections and add the mousse to each one then use a Denman brush to rake it through.
Sit under the dryer for 20 minutes to let the roots dry
In the next couple of days reapply the foam and enjoy the hold until your next wash day. ( I re-applied the next morning but definitely could’ve waited)
I added some Mielle edge tamer and was good to go.
The top picture is Day 2 and this one is Day 5
At this point my hair has gone through multiple hats, an uber windy walk the night before, 4 or 5 pineapples and wraps (if you know, you know)! It has withstood a gauntlet and for me, this is an incredible result for my first attempt.
Hand’s down my best wash n’ go yet! I may be more of a 5 day girl, then a 7 day but I’m impressed!
Thank me later and if it works for you, you have to let me know in the comments section!
I may do a video soon! What do you think? Should I?
Now get out there and unleash that hair,
Ashlee
