Don't Let Your Business Get in the Way of Your Life...Ever!

First off, let me just say a huge thank you to all of you for STILL opening my emails. The inconsistency has been alarming but also in some ways satisfying. I say this, because life always comes first! The people in front of you should always be your main priority. The strategic elements of your business are there as a roadmap to show you what you should do, but if you miss a few days or doing something isn't authentic to you (a specific type of social media trend or anything else) then don't do it.

In our world today, we have so many different options to spread our message and our cause, so please remove the pressure of doing it one specific way because everyone else does!

Life happens!

All of us have so many balls in the air and it can be hard to keep them all going at the same time.

Last week I had to set down my "business strategy" ball. I could feel myself starting to stress because I wasn't batched before our family cruise to Europe (Positano, Italy in this photo). So I knew with jet lag, I would be missing a few weeks on every front of my business.

That's when the guilt started to set in.

Times like this require you to take a step back, ask yourself what the most important thing in your life is right now and direct your attention there for the moment.

Here's the the great news!

I couldn't change the circumstances and it required a major shift in thinking that I wanted to share with all of you. Your business, your clients, your followers, your supporters, they will all still be there with open arms when you get back from your break, your hiatus, or whatever!

Here's the key:

Make sure you recognize and acknowledge that guilt, that feeling, early, even if it's hard to do! This will help you enjoy your time away and keep your house in order!

That strategic business activity 'ball' that you will need to set down, will still be in the SAME place when you get done focusing on your family 'ball'. No matter how successful your business is, success is nothing without the most important people in your life.

Remember that.

One of the best quotes on balance that I've ever heard is that "balance is focusing on what matters, when it matters most."

As an entrepreneur, YOU are in control of what happens in your business and how you're going to let it effect you and YOUR life.

Because, remember this, building a brand strategy is truly about designing a business that aligns with your life, not the other way around!
